How To Get Involved – San Francisco
Medical volunteers
We are always looking for medical professionals to join mission teams that travel abroad to provide free specialized care. We emphasize teaching and working with local medical professionals, but each team consists of all the providers necessary to perform similar work here in the United States. These teams often are generally between 20 and 30 people. Currently, our emphasis is on cleft lip and palate surgery missions. Therefore, our team consists of facial plastic surgeons, oral surgeons, dentists, anesthesiologists, CRNAs, anesthesia techs, OR nurses, recovery room nurses, scrub techs, speech therapists, audiologists, and pediatricians.
Community volunteers
Without the support of our friends, colleagues, and community members, the medical missions abroad simply wouldn’t be possible. We are in need of volunteers to assist in fundraising, bookkeeping, clerical work, correspondence, translation, and event planning at our chapter in San Francisco. In addition, on each medical mission, we have some non-medical staff. This includes trip administrators, photographers, and videographers. If you are interested in helping out with any of these services, please contact us.
Finally, we know that time is often scarce. Demands from work and family take up most of our lives. If you would like to support HTC NorCal but are unable to volunteer, we accept donations of any amount any time. These funds help to purchase equipment and supplies, support our local counterparts in their efforts to recruit patients, and may be used to pay for portions of the travel for patients and providers who could not otherwise afford it. All donations are fully tax deductible.
